Anne Sochan, RN, has an MA in Interdisciplinary Studies from the
University ofAlberta, and is currently working toward a PhD in Nursing at the University of Ottawa. Her research interests
center on exploring the nature of nurses’ work within Canadian-funded international nursing development initiatives.
Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, she supervised, and coordinated multiple donor-funded humanitarianassistance
and health promoting programs in Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova. She mentored newly established non-government community organizations,
while simultaneously working with local, regional, and international governments, and health-focused agencies supporting these
development initiatives. More recently, Anne taught Community Health Nursing, and the Global Context of Nursing at York University,
and participated in community development initiatives in the Dominican Republic. She is amember of several provincial, national,
and international nursing, health-promoting, and cultural organizations.
